CR collects Rs. 104 crore from ticketless travellers

The Central Railway (CR) has collected Rs. 103.95 crore from ticketless travellers in the last ten months as part of its special drive.

“From April 2015 to January 2016, a total of 20.74 lakh cases of ticketless travellers were detected as against 17.91 lakh cases during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 15.82 per cent in number of cases,” a senior railway officer said here.

“An amount of Rs. 103.95 crore was realised from them as fine, against Rs. 85.39 crore during corresponding period last year, which is an increase of 21.74 per cent in earnings,” the officer added.

Last month, 747 cases of illegal transfer of reserved tickets were detected and an amount of Rs. 5.40 lakh was realised as fine from them.

CR officials from the commercial department are closely monitoring the revenue loss due to ticketless travel and other such irregularities, he said.

There are five divisions under Central Railway – Mumbai, Pune, Bhusawal, Nagpur and Solapur.
