Filip Krajinovic beat Yuki Bhambri in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 of the second reverse singles to help Serbia to qualify for the World Group of the Davis Cup on Monday.

The result means that India will now again fight it out in Asia/Oceania zone in the 2015 season.

Yuki did not look the same fighting player on Monday as he failed to rein in his unforced errors and failed to grab his chances. Twice Yuki had the opportunity to break Krajinovic and turn it around but he failed to do so.

Earlier on Sunday, bad weather had halted the decisive fifth rubber after Serbia and hosts India were locked 2-2 in the Davis Cup World Group play-off tie in Bangalore.

Serbia’s Krajinovic was leading Bhambri 6-3, 4-4 in final singles rubber when heavy rain forced play to be abandoned for the night.

The match resumed on Monday morning and Krajinovic managed to beat Bhamri, and with that Serbia advanced to the elite 16-nation World Group and India consigned to zonal competitions.

But India played their heart out against second ranked Davis cup team as the winner was decided in the last rubber.

India’s top player Somdev Devvarman had won the first reverse singles to help the hosts draw level.

Devvarman, ranked 144th in the world, had rallied past world no. 61 Dusan Lajovic 1-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in a thrilling encounter on the hard court of Bangalore.

Serbia had won both the opening singles on Friday before India fought back with a five-set victory in Saturday’s doubles.
