DCW warns action against placement agencies for exploiting domestic workers

DCW-warnsIn a bid to stop exploitation of domestic helps, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Tuesday asked private placement agencies in the national capital to get themselves registered and warned them of action in case of non-compliance.

During a meeting with the representatives of Delhi-based placement agencies, DCW chairperson Barkha Shukla Singh cited the provisions of Delhi Private Placement Agencies Regulation Act 2012 including mandatory labour department license, maintaining a proper register and minimum salary of Rs 8,000 among others.

“In case, they do not cooperate and seek license and involve themselves in exploitation of the domestic workers there is a clear cut provision of punishment for one year, two years or even more with fine from Rs 15,000 to 25,000 along with licence cancellation,” a DCW statement said.

The meeting was attended by private placement agencies operating from areas such as Kirti Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, Kotla Mubarakpur, Chirag Delhi, Kidwai Nagar, West Kidwai Nagar, Shakurpur Basti and Tagore garden.

Singh also asked the agency heads to submit written suggestions that can be incorporated in the future amendments of the Act.
