A Delhi police officer was attacked with rods and stones and kicked multiple times for trying to break up a fight on a road in south Delhi.

Amit Singh, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, was assaulted by a group of men near the Lodhi Road crematorium this afternoon.

He was reportedly on his way to his office in Lodhi Colony when he spotted a biker and a car owner fighting and stopped. The fight started after an accident and a large group had reportedly gathered.

The police say when Mr Singh tried to step in, the group turned on him.

Senior police officers soon arrived at the spot and caught the attackers.

The badly injured officer has been taken to the AIIMS Trauma Center. The police say he is out of danger.
