Dhoni equals Azharuddin’s record of most ODI wins as captain

DhoniRecords and MS Dhoni go together as the Indian captain in between a poor England tour has achieved yet another feat. Dhoni has equaled Mohammad Azharuddin’s record of 90 ODI wins, the most by an Indian captain after India won at Trent Bridge by six wickets to lead the five-match ODI series 2-0.

Dhoni now finds himself on the brink of becoming the first Indian to lead his team in 100 ODI wins. Moreover, Dhoni took only seven years and 161 matches to achieve the record, while Azharuddin on the other hand took nine years between 1990 and 1999, which consisted of 174 matches.

In the concluded Test series, Dhoni’s captaincy came under severe criticism but with the bat he was consistent by scoring four half-centuries. In the second one-dayer at Cardiff also he slammed a fluent fifty to take India past the 300-run mark.

Against England in ODIs, Dhoni has a brilliant record with 16 wins and five losses out of 24 also two tied matches and one had no result. The Trent Bridge win was India’s seventh consecutive one on England soil, which started from the Champions Trophy last year.

On Saturday, he also achieved another record and this time as wicketkeeper. Dhoni has to his name 131 international stumpings ahead of Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara. Dhoni took only took 381 matches to get to this record and for Sangakkara it was 563 matches.
