Urging the world to stop focussing on the religious character of the extremist group Islamic State, Queen Rania of Jordan asserted that there was “nothing Islamic” about the ISIS and hence the first ‘I’ from its name must be dropped.

She added that the ISIS insisted upon being called Islamic as it would help them to recruit and portray the battle as ‘West against Islam’ fight, Huffington Post reported.

Queen Rania’s prudent remarks on ISIS came as she was speaking to Huffington Post Editor-In-Chief Arianna Huffington as a part of The WorldPost Future of Work Conference.

Calling ISIS a “bunch of crazy people”, she said that they have nothing to do with faith and they are all about fanaticism and that associating religion with the extremist group will grant them “undeserved legitimacy”.

“I would love to drop the first ‘I’ in ISIS because there’s nothing Islamic about them,” Queen Rania told Huffington Post Editor-In-Chief Arianna Huffington as the audience broke into applause.

Talking about the strategy to fight the ISIS, Queen Rania said that the fight against ISIS “can’t just be won on the battlefield” and that they ideology needs to be countered with better ideas, especially from the Muslim and Arab community.

“At the heart of this war is ideology, and you cannot kill an ideology with a bullet. You can only kill it with a better idea.”

She added that the fight against the ISIS must be spearheaded by Muslims and the Arabs and other than fighting them militarily, it was necessary to counter them ideologically.

Calling the murder of a Jordanian pilot Moaz al-Kasaesbeh at the hands of ISIS as “horrific”, she said that instead of scaring them, this will increase the vigour of Jordanians to fight against the extremists.

Jordanian pilot Moaz al-Kasaesbeh’s plane was the first anti-ISIS coalition het to have been downed by the ISIS. Later, the ISIS released a gruesome video where the pilot was shown being burnt alive in a cage.

The video shocked Jordanians and the world at large prompting King Abdullah II of Jordan to vow to annihilate the ISIS.

King Abdullah II, Queen Rania’s husband, took the fight against the ISIS to a whole new personal level when he decided to fly sorties and lead the airstrikes to bomb the ISIS targets.
