The World Health Organisation (WHO) on Friday declared the Ebola virus disease outbreak in West Africa as an international health emergency.

As the Ebola death toll has already crossed 930 in West Africa this year, WHO officials fear it as an epidemic of a far serious nature.

“A coordinated international response is deemed essential to stop and reverse the international spread of Ebola,” the WHO said in a statement issued after a meeting of its emergency committee.

India has braced itself against the virus by announcing an alert on all its International airports. The US’ Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued its highest alert activation over the Ebola outbreak.

According to reports, there is no vacine or cure available for Ebola virus at present. But several experiments are on to curb its deadly speed.

According to the WHO, the Ebola outbreak since March has struck 1,711 people and has killed 932 in Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone.

The virus is spread through direct contact with the bodily fluids of those infected.
