Eight held for advocate’s murder in Vyasarpadi

Eight persons have been arrested for the murder of advocate T Ravi in Vyasarpadi yesterday. According to the police, a gang of eight decided to bump off Ravi due to personal enmity. One more accused is still on the run.

The arrested persons have been identified as Rajini (37), Raj alias Thondairaj (34), Nagaraj (35) and Raj alias Vellairaj (40)- all from Udhayasuriyan Nagar in Vyasarpadi, Dilip Kumar (30) from MKB Nagar, Vignesh (22) from Border Thottam in Royapet, Vikram (23) from Nehru Nagar in Vyasarpadi along with Aravindraj (25) from Kalyanapuram in Vyasarpadi.

Another accused Babu also known as ‘Olai’ Babu is absconding, the police said. Ravi, who used to organise kangaroo courts had handled cases involving the arrested men, it is learnt.

One alleged that Ravi took Rs four lakh from him and another alleged that the victim made him surrender before the police in a case. The members of the gang united to eliminate him, and are hence cooling their heels in police custody.

Police sources said the advocate was on his scooter when he was chased by bike-borne assailants and murdered in full public view.

Initially, he was with the CPI party but changed several parties in recent years. Later he floated his own party Jananayaga Puratchi Munnani (Democratic Revolutionary Front). He was considered as a well known political face in the locality.

Following the incident, his family members staged a protest and demanded immediate arrest of the accused.
