Farmer-HangsA farmer from Rajasthan climbed a tree and hanged himself in front of hundreds of people, including Delhi Chief Minister ArvindKejriwal, at an AamAadmi Party rally in Delhi today.

The man, later identified as Gajender Singh Rajput rom Rajasthan’s Dausa district, left a suicide note in which he talked about being unable to fend for his three children anymore.

The man first tried to draw the attention of hundreds of people gathered to protest against the Centre’s land acquisition bill, by frantically waving a broom from the top of a tree.

AAP leaders and others climbed after him urging him to come down.

Within moments, the man had hung himself from the tree, as the crowd, including AAP leaders, supporters and journalists, watched in shock and horror.

The tree was just a few metres from the stage where Mr Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia were seated.

Seeing the man hanging precariously from the tree, MrKejriwal shouted to the crowd to keep calm and urged the police to bring him down.

The man fell to the ground from the tree and was immediately taken to hospital, where he was declared dead.

Mr Kejriwal visited the hospital after making his speech at the rally.

“Before our eyes he climbed tree. I kept telling the police to save him. But the police are not in our control, but at least he is under god’s control. I am sad that he climbed the tree in front of us but nobody tried to stop him,” said the Chief Minister.

Congress leader Sachin Pilot said, “Saving a person’s life is more important than making a political speech. It is very unfortunate that at a political rally, a farmer killed himself. It is sad that no one tried to stop him from doing so at a rally.”
