Ferguson verdict: They crucified my son’s character, says Michael Brown’s father

Ferguson-verdictThe devastated parents of the slain teenager Michael Brown, who are shell-shocked over the white police officer Darren Wilson’s account of his altercation with their son, and have lambasted the prosecutor for having “crucified” his character.

Talking to the NBC news, father of the slain black teenager, branded the officer’s account as crazy saying, “who in their right mind would rush or charge at a police officer that has his gun drawn? It sounds crazy.”

Brown’s mother Lesley McSpadden, too, speaking on NBC’s “Today” show, said that Wilson’s statements were like “insult after injury”.

28-year-old Darren Wilson had described Michael Brown as “very powerful” like a demon and claimed that he had come charging at him and grabbed his gun which forced him to shoot at him.

Wilson went scot-free as Missouri Grand Jury acquitted him in the case of August 9 shooting of Michael Brown.

Also, the Governor of Missouri has refused to present the case to a new grand jury to rethink on the police officer’s acquittal, reports the BBC.

The BBC cited a report in the St Louis Pos that quoted the spokesman for state governor Jay Nixon as saying that he would not entertain the idea of bringing in a special prosecutor to present the case to a new grand jury.

The fatal August 9 shooting of a black unarmed teenager named Michael Brown by a white policeman named Darren Wilson in Missouri’s Ferguson had sparked weeks of violence and unrest in the town besides raking up the sensitive issue of racial bias against the blacks.

What reignited the riots in Ferguson last night was the ruling by grand jury that acquitted the white police officer Darren Wilson and did not charge him over Michael Brown’s shooting.

The ruling left the family of Michael Brown disappointed and evoked widespread protests across dozens of US cities against what is being assumed as the excessive use of force against blacks by white cops.

However, after two nights of nationwide protest, the protesters seemed to dwindle on Wednesday night as mercury plummeted with rain and light snowfall on the eve of Thanksgiving Day.

St Louis suburb, where 18-year-old Michael Brown was killed on August 9.

But demonstrations appeared to dwindle on Wednesday amid heavy snowfall on the eve of the Thanksgiving holiday.

A handful of protesters remain in Ferguson, where Mr Brown was killed.

The family of Michael Brown said they were left “crushed” by the ruling, which has triggered nationwide debates over relations between black communities and law enforcement.

The governor of Missouri has reportedly rejected calls for a new grand jury to decide whether to charge a white police officer for killing a black teenager.

It follows two days of unrest in St. Louis and 12 other cities over a ruling not to charge Darren Wilson for the killing of 18-year-old Michael Brown.
