Days after killing of 14 CRPF personnel in a Naxal attack in the Chintagufa region of South Bastar’s Sukma district, the Home Ministry on Thursday set up a committee to find out what is going wrong in operations against ultras in Chhattisgarh.
Former CRPF director-general K Vijay Kumar heads the committee.
The committee, formed to check recurrence of Naxal attacks, has been asked to submit its report by December 15.
Earlier in the day, the Chhattisgarh government ordered a magisterial probe into the recovery of blood stained uniforms and shoes of CRPF personnel killed in Sukma from a garbage dump in a government hospital premises in Raipur where their autopsies took place.
Amid outrage over recovery of uniforms, the Centre has asked Chhattisgarh government to investigate the matter and punish those involved in “insulting” the troopers.
Yesterday, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said the central government was firmly committed to tackling Left-wing extremism and was implementing a multi-pronged strategy for the purpose.
The home minister was making a suo motu statement in the Lok Sabha on the Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh.
He added that Left-wing extremist violence has also been declining since 2011 and this trend continues in the current year.
