Husband sets wife on fire for demanding Rs. 10

A man in Bithri Chainpur set his wife on fire after she demanded Rs 10 for conveyance to visit her relatives.

The woman sustained 80 per cent burns and was taken to a local hospital, where her condition is stated to be critical.

The woman, Savita, a resident Guladiya Hazarilal, was married to Rahul Mishra of Rajau area in July this year. The woman used to face regular torture over failure to bring sufficient dowry from, her in-laws.

The incident took place on Saturday when the woman demanded money to visit her relatives’ place. The husband got enraged and poured kerosene on her. The woman tried to escape by running towards the courtyard but the man threw a burning mattress at her and bolted the door from outside, before fleeing from the spot, said the woman’s father.

Hearing her cries, neighbours broke open the door and rushed her to a local hospital, said Station Officer, Bithri Chainpur, Gajendra Singh.

He said on the complaint of the victim’s family a case has been registered under different sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the husband, his brother, Gopal Mishra and sister-in-law of the victim. The husband Rahul Mishra has been arrested and sent to jail, he said.
