I would like to play at Eden whenever I plan to retire: Harbhajan Singh

As much as Eden Gardens belongs to VVS Laxman for his epic 281 against Australia in that historic Test, it is also Harbhajan Singh’s spiritual home for the 13 wickets that he took in that particular match.

Such has been his emotional connect that the ‘Turbanator’ said that as and when he decides to retire, he would like to play last Test match on the hallowed Eden Gardens turf.

“I have not planned anything but yes, whenever I would think I would like to play my last game at the Eden. But that has got to be in a Test,” Harbhajan, who has a Test hat-trick at this venue during the 2001 Test win against Australia, said.

The off-spinner with a five-wicket haul also helped India retain their No 1 Test status after beating South Africa by an innings and 57 runs in 2010.

“Eden is a very very special place. Playing cricket in Eden is always special. This is like coming home and playing cricket. If people say cricket in England is at Lord’s, then in India for me this is the best place to play cricket. I have got some great memories playing here and hopefully I can continue to do well here.”

Harbhajan further said he would miss former president Jagmohan Dalmiya who passed away after a massive cardiac arrest on September 20.

“One thing we will be missing is Jagmohan Dalmiya sir. He won’t be watching the game but I am sure he will be blessing us from somewhere.”
