The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which mans Indian airports, was on Thursday asked to tighten vigil at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport after the Intelligence Bureau issued an alert regarding a possible attack on the airbase.

Major airports had only recently been put on high alert after the Director of Airports Authority of India, Kolkata, had received an anonymous call stating that AI flights on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai and Mumbai-Kochi sector could be ‘sabotaged’.

Security agencies had tightened vigil in the city after specific inputs regarding a possible terror attack on the Kolkata Port.

In a state of a high alert, Navy warships INS Khukri and INS Sumitra were sent to undisclosed locations then.

After tapping of suspicious intercepts by intelligence agencies, the Coast Guard had been told to intensify sea patrolling and the CISF has been asked to enhance patrolling at the various installations and sensitive points at the port.
