In yet another Dimapur rerun, an auto-rickshaw driver was lynched by family members of a woman after he allegedly looted her jewellery here in Firozabad district. After booking four persons, police have arrested one accused in the incident.

Identified as Rakesh Kumar, the auto rickshaw driver was hired by a woman for taking her to Ganga Nagar locality in the district on Saturday evening. But after reaching home, the woman complained to her family that the driver looted her jewellery.

Soon woman’s enraged brother Vishnu Verma and another person pounced at the driver and hit him with a baton and a cable till he died. The body was then left in the auto-rickshaw by the attackers before they fleed from the spot.

“The postmortem report of the deceased indicated that he died due to the injuries that he had sustained,” police said.

The family members of the driver staged a protest on Sunday demanding arrest of the accused and compensation to the family of the victim. Other auto rickshaw drivers also joined in and blocked the highway.

Later, the Firozabad police registered a case of murder against Vishnu Verma, Pawan Kumar, Sanjay Yadav and Pappu Baghel.

“Pappu Baghel has been arrested. Search is on for the others,” police added.

Notably, this was second lynching incident in the area within a week. A few days ago, a drunk youth was beaten to death by villagers for allegedly misbehaving with a woman in neighboring Agra.
