Israel junket turns Telangana MLAs into ‘progressive farmers’

The Telangana government faced flack, Tuesday, over its decision to send four MLAs on a trip to Israel as ‘progressive farmers’.

The MLAs are to attend the 19th International Agriculture Exhibition in Tel Aviv, Israel for four days starting April 27.

A report quoting state agriculture department claimed that the four MLAs qualified for the tour as they are ‘progressive farmers’ because they have encouraged novel farming techniques like organic farming and drip irrigation.

However, media reports alleged that the four MLAs in question do not have a farming background.

Expectedly, the Opposition has slammed the K Chandrashekar Rao state government as being insensitive to the plight of farmers.

Farmers in Telangana have suffered huge losses this year after unseasonal rains destroyed standing crop in lakhs of hectares.
