Causing panic in the state, a Japanese tourist, who arrived in Manipur’s capital Imphal from Myanmar, is suspected to have contracted the deadly Ebola virus.
The tourist called Kawakubo Yuko, a 27-year-old lady, had already visited five countries. She had checked in at a hotel in Imphai after reaching Manipur from Myanmar by road.
According to doctors, the tourist was shifted to a private hospital in Imphal after she developed Ebola-like symptoms.
Her blood samples have been collected and sent for testing at the National Institute of Virology, Pune.
The patient has been moved to Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal for better medical care. Sources at the hospital said that she has been kept in isolation at the female medicine ward, unit 3, bed no. 7 of JNIMS.
While test results are still awaited, if found positive for Ebola, she might be shifted to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal since isolation ward was not available at JNIMS.
With this development, tourists visiting Manipur both by road or air may now be screened for Ebola virus disease.
