In what can send a chill down the spine of chicken lovers, a US citizen has claimed on social media that he was served fried rat instead of chicken at a California outlet of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC).

The Facebook wall of Devorise Dixon is flooded with an array of reactions after he shared the picture of the weird-looking ‘chicken tender’ dish in the shape of a “rat with a tail” that he was served at the KFC in Compton, California.

Dixon said that he had ordered a 3-peice chicken tender at KFC, however, as he bit into the chicken wings, it felt “rubbery and hard”, forcing him to take a re-look at the dish which looked like a “fried rat”.

A day after, when he went back to the KFC and talked to the manager, she confessed to him that it was a rat.

On June 11, Dixon post on Facebook read:

“DON’T EAT FAST FOOD!!! I WENT TO KFC YESTERDAY AND BOUGHT A 3PIECE CHICKEN TENDER. AS I BIT INTO IT I NOTICED THAT IT WAS VERY HARD AND RUBBERY WHICH MADE ME LOOK AT IT. AS I LOOKED DOWN AT IT I NOTICED THAT IT WAS WAS IN A SHAPE OF A RAT WITH A TAIL. IT SENT DEEP CHILLS THROUGHOUT MY WHOLE BODY! I’VE BEEN FEELING WEIRD EVER SINCE. I BOUGHT THIS IN COMPTON, CA ON WILMINGTON AND 120TH. I’VE NEVER SEEN CHICKEN LIKE THIS BEFORE ITS SICK!!!”

Dixon’s post on Facebook on June 12:

“WENT BACK TO KFC YESTERDAY AND SPOKE TO THE MANAGER SHE SAID IT IS A RAT AND APOLOGIZED, IT’S TIME FOR A LAWYER!!! BESAFE DON’T EAT FAST FOOD!!!”

The KFC has however refuted the claim and said that its various attempts to talk to Dixon had failed.

In reply to various Facebook posts by Indians, the KFC issued a statement, saying,

“This image is from the US and is unrelated to KFC in India. KFC takes customer claims very seriously, and they are investigating this matter. KFC chicken tenders often vary in size and shape, and there is no evidence to support this claim. We have extended the opportunity to have an independent lab evaluate the product at our own expense, but the customer refuses to provide the product in question”.

The furore over the issue has taken the social media by the storm and Twitter and Facebook are abuzz with netizens reacting vigorously.

KFC has to face the music from customers worldwide, especially those from India, where people are already feeling the pangs of deception after Maggi was banned in several states due to high levels of lead and MSG (mono sodium glutamate) and also Mother Dairy came under scanner today due to alleged presence of detergents in the milk.
