In yet another incident of crime against women, a sub-divisional police officer charged the local SP of rape on Monday in Bihar’s Kaimur district.
Promising to marry the victim, Pushkar Anand who joined as Kaimur SP in July this year, began avoiding her after she pressurized him for marriage and refused to tie knot with her. “He started abusing me… There are witnesses and proof of our relationship,” she told police over phone.
The police headquarters have set up a three-member committee under the guidelines of the state government to probe the case.
She has said in the FIR that there was even exchange of horoscopes between their families, but the man’s family later claimed that the horoscopes didn’t match. She has also named his parents in the FIR.
However, the SP refuted the allegations. He told, “The SDPO was fond of me and wanted to marry me. When I rejected her proposal, she started blackmailing me. She told me that either you marry me or face the consequences.” He added, “The woman SDPO has a penchant for having love affairs with married men and now she wants to marry me.”
Asked about the action taken in the matter, Bihar DGP P K Thakur said, “We have constituted a three-member inquiry team under the guidelines of the state government. It will submit its report at the earliest, though no timeframe has been given to the team. No action will be taken against the IPS officer till the allegation is prima facie proved. Both of them are senior officials and are aware of the law, so looking at their seniority, we will wait till the inquiry ends to take any action.”
