‘Legal insurance’ need of the hour for poor to get justice

Nothing against top lawyers charging in crores from their super rich clients but judicial reforms are the need of the hour so that even the poor can get justice in our country. Nobody should be allowed to die in a democratic set up for want of medicine and treatment for that medical insurance should be made available at lower cost for the poor. Similarly, ‘legal insurance’ should be introduced in our country where people pay a premium like any other insurance schemes in exchange for lawyers facilities that could be made available to them at times when they might face legal cases in unfortunate circumstances.

Today, lawyers charge a bombshell and even court fees as well as stamp duty have also gone up substantially. A cap needs to be put not just on these expenses but cases must be time bound so that legal proceedings can become affordable to all citizens and cases not dragged for ages. Lawyers too have an social responsibility towards the society and people belonging to the legal profession should earmark some percentage of their professional duties at subsidised rates from clients whose cases are strong but unfortunately do not have the resources to fight their cases in courts.
