Maharashtra government will constitute a board for sugarcane harvesting workers and name it after Gopinath Munde, the late BJP leader, Governor C Vidyasagar Rao said.

Rao was addressing a joint session of the Maharashtra Legislature at Vidhan Bhawan, as the Budget session got underway here today.

“With a view to give financial security and improve the standard of living of sugarcane harvesting workers in the unorganised sector, the government has decided to constitute the Board for Sugarcane Harvesting Workers under the Maharashtra Mathadi, Hamal and other Manual Workers Act, 1969,” the Governor said.

It would be named as ‘Loknete Gopinath Munde Maharashtra Sugarcane Harvesting and Carting and other Unprotected Manual Workers Board’.

It is also proposed to construct a grand memorial of late Munde at Aurangabad, he said.

Earlier, state Legislative Council Chairman Shivajirao Deshmukh and Assembly Speaker Haribhau Bagde received the Governor at the entrance of the Vidhan Bhawan.
