SawantTaking strong objection to comments of the ruling BJP government about making Maharashtra the ‘number one’ state in the country, Opposition Congress said that the state has always been ‘number one’ in all sectors including industrial development.

State Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant said that they would welcome the steps taken by the BJP government in the interest of the state, but will not tolerate any move by the BJP to create doubts in minds of people regarding the previous government’s work.

“…But to show that they (BJP) are doing something different and unique and creating doubts in the minds of people that the previous regimes had not done anything substantial, will not be tolerated,” Sawant said.

Maharashtra is the ‘number one’ state in the country in terms of FDI with 33 per cent of investments in the country coming to the state, Sawant said.
Referring to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s current tour of Davos for World Economic Forum summit, Sawant said the CM had not given charge (of office) to anyone during his tour.

“This shows Fadnavis does not trust his ministers,” he said.

Sawant said both the state and Centre are insensitive to the needs of the common man and farmers and alleged that they are only doing welfare for rich and the corporates.

“Both the governments do not care for the common man and farmers but (are) only interested in welfare of the rich and corporates. The quota of 9 litres kerosene in PDS has been reduced to five litres.

Similarly, 1.77 crore ration card holders in the above poverty line category under the Food Security Act have been removed as beneficiaries,” he said.
