A man was arrested by sleuths of the Thane unit of the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly accepting a bribe on behalf of a government servant, police said.

The accused – Manohar Kamble demanded Rs. three lakh on behalf of Talasari tehsildar from the complainant for doing his work related to a land matter, said Balkrishna Sawant, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Thane unit, ACB.

Kamble had already accepted part payment of Rs. 40,000 from the complainant on December 15 and was repeatedly asking for the balance amount, he said.

Police said initially Kamble demanded Rs. six lakh but then settled for Rs. three lakh which was supposed to be given to some officials including the tehsildar in neighbouring Palghar district.

Following a complaint, a trap was laid last night and Kamble was arrested while accepting the bribe amount of Rs. two lakh at Talasari in Palghar district, Sawant added.

A case under relevant sections of Preventions of Corruption Act was registered in this regard, the officer said, adding investigations are underway.
