In a very strong rebuttal to Samjawadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav’s offer for an alliance with her party in Uttar Pradesh to defeat communal forces, BSP chief Mayawati on Wednesday ruled out the possibility of an alliance with the former and accused him of colluding with the communal forces.
Speaking to the media, the BSP national president said, “Mulayam Singh Yadav is hand in glove with communal forces and is only interested in power. He believes in politics of opportunism.”
Coming down heavily on the SP chief, Mayawati said, “Let alone SP, there is absolutely no question of an alliance with any other party in UP. We will contest elections alone,” Mayawati said.
Reacting to RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s recent suggestion that SP and BSP should forge an alliance in UP to defeat communal forces, the former UP chief minister said that two Yadavs are power-hungry.
“For these two Yadavs power comes before self-respect, but for me self-respect comes before power,” Mayawati said.
The BSP chief also reminded the RJD chief of the 1995 guest house incident where she was attacked and insulted by the SP MLAs and claimed that the BSP will form the next government in UP by ending the misrule and gondaraj of the SP government.
The bitter reactions from the BSP chief came shortly after media quoted Mulayam Singh as saying that he is ready to consider an alliance with Mayawati in Uttar Pradesh, if RJD chief Lalu Prasad mediates.
The SP chief was responding to questions on a suggestion made by Lalu Prasad that the two regional forces in Uttar Pradesh should join hands to take on the BJP.
Lalu Prasad’s RJD has aligned with Nitish Kumar for assembly by-polls in Bihar.
The two regional leaders, who have been bitter rival for years, recently came on one stage to launch joint campaign for Bihar by-poll.
The realignment was necessitated after the poor show by regional parties in the Lok Sabha polls.
The BSP leaders also reacted to the news with caution.
BSP leader Sudhindra Bhadoria said people of UP will never forgive SP for their misrule and asked Mulayam’s party to apologize for this.
BSP chief Mayawati will decide on future, he said.
