Medical emergency? Just get an ICU set up in your home

Health Care at Home (HCAH), a United Kingdom-based healthcare firm, has come up with a new facility by which a fully functional intensive care unit (ICU) can be set up in a patient’s house in times of emergency.
The new healthcare concept can also perform dialysis and chemotherapy for cancer patients.
For this, the HCAH will work with patients’ doctors to offer critical services in oncology, pulmonology, post-operative care, critical and palliative care to patients at their homes. A team will contact a patient’s doctor and provide adequate treatment needed for him at home. If required, it can also set up an ICU within 6 hours at home for serious patients.
In addition, this will also cost a lot less than treatment in hospitals.
“It’s a total cost-cutting concept. Now people won’t have to face stress of staying at hospitals for days. This will mainly benefit people who are residing in remote areas. We have a team of highly expert and experienced nursing staff who are thoroughly trained to treat people,” said Gareth Jones, CEO, HCAH, while addressing reporters. “It will help hospitals by reducing heavy burden of patients. It is good for doctors as well as it will free them from regular screening of patients,” Jones added.
On the occasion, Dr Gaurav Thukral said, “Cancer patients can now choose this concept for post-surgery treatments like radiation, chemotherapy, hormone therapy and biological therapy without having to get admitted to a hospital or hopping between places. Even pregnant women can opt for pre- and post-delivery customised care, especially in cases of high-risk pregnancies.”
