The Bengaluru Police on Wednesday confirmed that the parents of the software engineer who was arrested last week for operating a pro-ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) Twitter account, have arrived in the city, adding that they have requested an audience with the Police Commissioner.

“The parents of the accused were not called by the police. They have come to Bengaluru on their own and called me up, asking to meet me and I have agreed to do so at an appropriate place and time,” Bengaluru Police Commissioner MN Reddi told the media.

“As far as interviewing or interrogating them is concerned, that I will leave it to the investigating officer,” he added.

Earlier this week, Bengaluru Police had arrested Mehdi Masroor Biswas for allegedly operating a pro-ISIS Twitter account.

An investigation by Britain’s Channel 4 News had stated that the @ShamiWitness account, which reportedly had a massive 17,700 followers, was being run by an executive based in Bangalore.

The report also claimed that the executive was ready to join the Islamic State himself if his family had not been dependant on him.

As per reports, the social networking account had also tweeted US aid worker Peter Kassig’s execution and other videos, moments after they first appeared on the internet.
