Michael Schumacher starting to recognize family but still unable to speak, claims ‘friend’

Former Formula One racer Philippe Streiff said Michael Schumacher “was yet to recover the power of speech” but was “beginning to recognize those close to him”.

In an interview to Le Parisien, Streiff claimed his information had come from someone that was in touch with Corinne, wife of Michael Schumacher and his neurosurgeon, Gerard Saillant.

The newspaper described Streiff as a long-time friend of the F1 legend. He too suffered a crash at the Jacarepagua circuit in Rio de Janeiro that left him paralyzed.

That is also another reason how he knows the neurosurgeon treating Schumi, as he too consulted Sailant during this crash.

However, Sabine Kehm, manager of Schumacher disputed the claims made by Striff and stated the road to recovery would be long for the seven-time F1 champion.

The German racer suffered a head injury in a skiing accident on holiday at Meribel on December 29, 2013.
