Shortly after Muzaffarnagar riots accused MLA Sangeet Som was barred from entering Moradabad by the administration, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) team including party MLA Suresh Rana arrived in the district on Sunday.

Rana accused the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dharamvir of playing politics over the incident and said that the party will raise the issue in Vidhan Sabha.
“We will meet the jailed party workers and probe the matter,” he added.

Meanwhile, Commissioner SS Singh said that the BJP team does not have the permission to visit the site due to tension.

The SSP had blamed Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) call for ‘mahapanchayat’ in Kanth village for the communal flare up in the area.

Clashes between the police, BJP workers and villagers took place last week after communal tension flared in the region following the removal of loudspeakers from a temple.

After the incident, four Bharatiya Janata Party leaders – Amroha MP Kanwar Singh Tanwar, Rampur MP Nepal Singh and Sambhal MP Satyal Saini, along with Sardhana legislator Sangeet Som – who were detained have been released.

BJP has formed a team under state party president Laxmikant Bajpayi to probe the incident.
