The Tax Assessment and Collector Department of the BMC has started taking strict action for property tax recovery. But the tax arrears of Municipal Commissioner Bungalow for the last 14 years are Rs. 4.56 lakhs. This matter has come to light from the information provided by BMC to RTI activist Anil Galgali.
RTI activist Anil Galgali filed a RTI query at the commissioner’s office on December 29, 2023, and asked for the information about the monthly total electricity consumption, units used by Commissioner Bungalow. While providing information about the expenditure incurred for electricity facilities at Commissioner bungalow for the last 5 years. Anil Galgali’s application was transferred by the Commissioner’s Office to the Water Department of D Division. The water department transferred the application to the assessee and collector department. Information given to Anil Galgali till 5th June 2024. Rs 3.89 lakhs outstanding from April 1, 2010 to March 31, 2023. Also the current bill payment pending from 1st April 2023 to 31st March 2024 is 67,278. It includes general tax and water tax. What is special is the water connection without water meter.
According to Anil Galgali, the installation of water meters is necessary. Be it Commissioner or common citizen everyone must pay tax on time.
