The controversy over Netaji’s snooping leaks refuses to die down as Subash Chandra Bose’s grandnephew Chandra K Bose on Sunday demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government to declassify of all secret files related to him.
Chandra said, “PM Modi had promised a transparent government. He should come in front and declassify all documents pertaining to the snooping.”
Chandra’s statement comes minutes after; Congress leader Pramod Tiwari refuted the allegation, calling them false.
“This was not snooping, must have been some reason to find out some information. Allegation is false. It was routine and facts finding,” said Tiwari.
Reacting to his statement, Chandra said, “It’s not an allegation. Documentary evidence establishes the fact that Pandit Nehru’s government kept surveillance on SC Bose’s kin.”
Two recently declassified Intelligence Bureau files, which are now in the National Archives, reveal unprecedented surveillance on the kin of Bose between 1948 and 1968.
Notably, Nehru served as the PM from 1947 until his death in office in 1964.
The IB spied on the two Bose family homes in Calcutta: 1 Woodburn Park and 38/2 Elgin Road, and reported directly to Nehru.
The agency intercepted, copied letters written by family members of Bose and tracked their visits within country and abroad.
However, the reasons why they were asked to report on the family’s movements are not entirely clear.
