One of the two absconding constables accused of gangraping a minor girl at a police station in Uttar Pradesh was arrested from Bareily railway station. The second constable accused of the crime is still absconding. The Uttar Pradesh’s Special Task Force has been roped in to hunt down the accused.
A 14-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and gangraped by two constables inside Badaun police station in Uttar Pradesh, prompting the authorities to terminate the services of the accused and suspend the SHO.
The girl was allegedly abducted from her house on December 31 by constables Veer Pal Singh Yadav and Avnish Yadav, police said. She was taken to Musajhag Police Station and allegedly raped there, Superintendent of Police (City) Lallan Singh said.
Avnish Yadav said, “Will a policeman do such a thing? I have lost everything. Will I ever get a job again? What will happen to my children. I am 40 years old, would I do such a thing.”
An FIR was registered after the victim’s mother lodged a complaint against the two policemen, who are absconding.
“The medical examination of the girl has confirmed the rape,” said Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) A Satish Ganesh.
The two constables hail from Bareilly and separate teams were constituted to nab them. ADG, Crime, H C Awasthi has been asked to probe the entire incident, Ganesh said.
Giving details of the alleged incident, the victim said, “At 8 PM I informed my mother and went for relieving myself. I saw a car there and two constables. They told me to come into the car and then took me away. They took me to a room in the police station where they assaulted me…They then dropped me to my village.”
District Magistrate Shambhu Nath said a financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh was also given to the family of the victim from the Chief Minister’s fund.
Night duty in-charge of the police station Himanshu Shukla and head constable Udayveer Singh were also suspended and sub-inspector Sobharan Singh Yadav has been shunted to police lines.
