Onus on Mumbai SHOs for their men’s behaviour

In a bid to improve their image, Mumbai police have issued a circular stating that in-charge of police stations in the megapolis will be held responsible to any acts of misbehaviour of their subordinates with the public.

“Police officers should take a professional recourse to provocations and not take the law into their hands. Police misbehaviour is recorded and given to media houses. This tarnishes the image of the police force. Police Inspectors in-charge of police stations and officers heading different units should regularly sensitise their subordinates,” said the circular issued by Mumbai top cop Ahmad Javed on November 9. If any policeman was found to be behaving in an over-aggressive manner, disciplinary action would be taken against him and his seniors too will be held responsible for the same, the circular said.
