NCP-Congress at loggerheads over LOP
The Shiv Sena which had won 63 seats is the second largest party but if it joins the BJP led government in the state then the leader of opposition post will be vacant.
Nawab Malik, NCP spokesperson said, “We had a pre-poll alliance with the Bahujan Vikas Aghadi which had won 3 seats and have support of an independent MLA from Badner. Thus our strength is 45 seats and we are the contender for the post of opposition.”
Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee leader Manikrao Thakre said his party would stake claim for the post of Leader of Opposition in the Assembly.
“We are the largest opposition group after Shiv Sena joins the government. Our group leader in the Assembly is Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil. It is up to the high command if the Leader of Opposition post should be given to any other leader or retain Vikhe Patil,” the MPCC President said.
Senior Congress leader Radhakrishna Patil said the Congress’ claim is already there with the state legislature. “Based on our strength we are eligible for leader of Opposition if Sena joins the government,”
NCP president Sharad Pawar was injured yesterday when he slipped during his morning walk at his residence in New Delhi. He has been airlifted to Mumbai by air ambulance.
His wife Pratibha and daughter Supriya Sule had accompanied him.
Pawar, who left Congress and formed Nationalist Congress Party in 1999, is currently a member of Rajya Sabha.
NCP leader Praful Patel said, “Sharad Pawar had sustained a fracture in his right leg after the fall in his Delhi residence.”
“He was brought to Mumbai by air ambulance and is being treated by his doctors at Breach Candy Hospital,” Patel said, adding that a surgery is to be conducted to repair the fracture. Pawar would be discharged after five or six days of rest.”
