The Pakistan Cricket Board on Tuesday named Shahid Afridi as the skipper of Pakistan’s Twenty20 squad until 2016.
However, the Pakistan board retained Misbah-ul-Haq as the ODI skipper till the forthcoming ICC World Cup, which is scheduled to start from February next year in Australia and New Zealand.
Afridi has replaced Mohammad Hafeez, who had stepped down after Pakistan’s unimpressive performance at the World Twenty20 in Bangladesh earlier this year.
PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan says he consulted the board’s cricket committee before naming Afridi and Misbah as captains.
Earlier, swashbuckling Afridi had led Pakistan 19 time in T20 matches between 2009-11, in which Pakistan ended up as a losing side on 11 occasions and won eight matches.
He also captained Pakistan to the semifinals of World Twenty20 in the West Indies in 2010 before losing in the semifinals to Australia.
