It has come to light that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had reportedly ignored Special Protection Group (SPG) and intelligence agencies’ requests to cancel last week’s public rally in Srinagar despite there being threat perception.

Even though the SPG and intelligence agencies apprised PM Modi that there were security threats, he reportedly refused to cancel his December 8th rally held ahead of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls and went ahead with it, according to sources.

With PM Modi deciding to hold the rally, Srinagar was turned into a fortress with security forces virtually taking control of the city.

Security in the area was tightened with over 40,000 personnel deployed to guard the rally which was held at the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium in Srinagar.

Over 4,000 personnel from central and state security forces were also deployed in and around the rally ground.

The PM held the rally in Srinagar just days after terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir left 11 security personnel dead.
