Unidentified persons allegedly attacked a police team as they rammed their vehicle into the former’s jeep in Mira Road area, police said.
On a tip off, a police team had to gone to Mira Road East to nab a wanted criminal, identified as Asif Momin Ansari, in Navghar locality of Bhayander last Sunday and were chased by unidentified persons in a car, Navghar police station sub-inspector S P Shirke said.
As soon as the police team zeroed-in on them, most personnel got off the vehcile to nab the miscreants who on seeing the police approaching, dashed their vehicle into the police jeep.
Constable M N Kuspale, who was inside the jeep, jumped out for rescue, but he did not give up and chased the goons on a two-wheeler, Shirke said.
Kuspale was again hit the miscreant’s car as they saw the constable chasing them.
The accused managed to escape from the scene taking advantage of darkness at about 11:30 PM, the officer said.
Police is yet to identify the group of men inside the car.
A case has been registered in this regard under IPC sections and Motor Vehicle Act the police said.
