Beef politics is heating up as chief ministers of the states felt that the Centre is dictating terms. The Centre is understood to be having a rethink on its order restricting sale of animals, including cows and buffaloes for slaughter following stiff opposition from some states. The government is likely to exempt buffaloes from the no slaughter list and it is highly ridiculous. The decision brought the opposition and the ruling BJP into conflict. The fact is that there is a lot of talk about respecting each other’s feelings in the name of secularism. It should not be a deliberate attempt to encroach on the states’s power and federalism.
