Acclaimed cartoonist Pran Kumar Sharma, the man behind cult Indian comics ‘Chacha Choudhary’, passed away on Wednesday. He was 76.

Born on August 15, 1938, in Kasur (modern day Pakistan), Pran graduated with a Masters Degree in Political Science. He then pursued a course in Fine Arts from Mumbai’s famous Sir JJ School of Arts.

The thespian had begun his career as a cartoonist way back in 1960. He was awarded with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Indian Institute of Cartoonists in 2001, for his matchless contribution. Sharma was one such personality who made comics in India sell like hot-cakes.
