A day after Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani visited Amethi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra slammed her on Wednesday and said that the minister is answerable on the IIIT Amethi issue.
“She (Irani) is the HRD Minister. First she should tell us why she is not setting up an IIIT here. The youth are facing a lot of problems and this is her department. Why is she not looking into it,” she said.
The statement was made by Priyanka after her arrival in her mother and Congress preident Sonia Gandhi’s constituency Rae Bareli today.
“Mrs Vadra has not done her homework. There is a campus of IIIT Allahabad in Amethi. Now, a winning candidate is asking a losing candidate to develop the constituency they have been ruling for the 60 years,” Smriti said while addressing a press conference.
The HRD Minister had unsuccessfully contested Lok Sabha elections against Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi from Amethi.
Smriti was on one-day visit to Amethi yesterday on the completion of one year of Narendra Modi-led NDA government.
The Amethi campus was set up in 2005 as an extension of Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Allahabad.
During her visit, Smriti had launched a scathing attack at the Congress party and said that they have failed the people of Amethi.
Referring to the recently set up railway line between Amethi and Unchachar, she said that what Congress government could not achieve in the last 10 years was done by the NDA in the past one year.
