Salman-ProtestOver a dozen pro-Tamil activists staged protests against Salman Khan in front of his Mumbai residence on Sunday morning for supporting Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The Tamil activists were upset with the Bollywood superstar who recently visited Sri Lanka to campaign for Rajapaksa, ahead of the presidential election in the island-country.

Television pictures showed protesters waving flags of the banned Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and holding pictures of its late commander V Prabhakaran, before they were removed by the police.

“Salman Khan down down,” the protestors shouted holding placards condemning the superstar.

The Rajapaksa regime is accused by human rights organisations of unleashing atrocities against Lankan Tamil civilians in the final stages of the civil war against the LTTE in 2008. Thousands of Tamils died and many more were driven to camps following the army crackdown.

“Police were present for protection at Salman’s residence during the protest and a few people who protested have been detained by the police and being questioned,” a police official from Bandra station said.

Security has been increased outside Salman’s Galaxy apartment because of the protest, which lasted for around ten minutes

Salman was recently in Colombo with his ‘Kick’ co-star Jacqueline Fernandez after accepting the invitation by Rajapaksa’s son Namal, to campaign for his father.
