A local court on Tuesday extended for two days the police remand of Colonel Vinod Sahani, arrested for allegedly raping a 21-year-old mentally-challenged woman at his residence in Deolali Camp.

Sahani was produced before Nashik Road Court, which extended his police custody.

Sahani, posted in depot battery at Artillery Centre, was arrested late Saturday night after the victim’s parents had lodged a complaint of rape against him. The court had earlier remanded him in police custody till today.

According to Deolali Camp police, the officer was staying with his family at his private flat located in Deolali Camp area.

On April 30 Sahani had forcibly taken the woman, also a resident of his building, to his flat, while his family members were away, and allegedly raped her, police said.
