Underworld don Ravi Pujari is known for making threatening calls to renowned celebrities and demanding extortion money from them. While some of them take these threats seriously and file complaints with the police some others take it with a pinch of salt. According to sources from crime branch Pujari has a tendency to issue death threats to garner cheap publicity. His intention is to remain in limelight by targeting popular politicians as these types of incidents are reported by the media vastly.
A crime branch source said, “Pujari pehli badi machli ko call karte hai toh, choti machli apne aap line par aati hai aur extortion ke liye aasani hoti hai. (He targets the big fish first as smaller fishes easily fall into trap and makes the extortion task easier for him).”
Pujari had issued death threat to All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) chairman Syed Ali Geelani. He had allegedly called on the landline number of Hurriyat office in Srinagar’s Hyderpura area and threatened to kill its chief.
Acccording to Ayaz Akbar, Hurriyat spokesperson Pujari called on the land line number of Geelani’s party office at Hyderpora, Srinagar, at about 8.45 pm on Friday and “talked in uncivilised and abusive language”. Akbar added that the underworld don then himself confirmed the threat call to a private news channel and publicly threatened to kill Mr Geelani.
“Pujari “is a third-grade uncivilised goon and his threat to kill someone is not extraordinary or surprising, but the matter of concern is the rising intolerance in India which claims to be the largest democracy in the world,” said Akbar.
