Bharatiya Janata Party MP Sakshi Maharaj sparked a fresh controversy by claiming that he is a true Muslim and Prophet Mohammed is the biggest practitioner of yoga. The remarks came just days before the International Yoga Day will be celebrated across the world on June 21 and the party is all out to make it a success.

Maharaj said, “In Islam, the biggest name is that of Mohammed and I think Mohammed saab is a great yogi. I think that a Muslim is one with ‘iman’, thus a Mussalman. I am a true Muslim.”

There was a rift on performing Surya Namaskar on June 21 event. Maharaj said, “Without the Sun, you and I both would be blind, the whole world would be blind. Those who call the Sun communal, stop taking its light?”

The Muslim Law Board had decided to move the Supreme Court and launch a nationwide campaign against the order that wanted students to perform yoga and Surya Namaskar on June 21.

Earlier, Maharaj dared Uttar Pradesh Minister Mohd Azam Khan to say ‘Jai Shri Ram’.

“Azam is one person, who never speaks truth. He is advising Yogi Adityanath to offer namaz,” the BJP MP, who was here to attend a private function said.

He was only misleading muslims, Maharaj alleged.
