Believe that the law needs to be strengthened to make an inclusive education for all children, including disabled children, an enforceable right, Pathways World School in the hub of cyber city has opened its door for students with learning difficulties.

Offering admissions to students who failed or were expelled from other schools, this one admits students for next academic year. Not only do they feel proud about it or has any qualms, they also take it as a challenge to accept students with poor learning skills.

Anupama Diddee, head of special education department of Pathways World School, Aravalli told media persons that for parents who find it difficult to search for such educational institutions which can offer admission to these kind of children turns out to be a herculean task, with the help of special educators, they had admitted a girl in Class VI after she failed in Class V in a popular school in Assam and the girl is now studying in Class VIII in Pathways World School.

Another city-based school, Pallavanjali, located near Sohna Road, also claims to be open to admitting any student. “We are open to all sorts of students. Instead of preventing them from taking admission, we work on them to improve their cognitive abilities,” says Shaloo Sharma, the principal of Pallavanjali School.

The school tries to maintain a ratio of 60:40 of normal to special children.

Kormiyaki Lamarr, a student of an international school in Gurgaon, faced learning disability but his school made his life much easier. The teacher found that he is a good photographer and was hence made the school lensman.

While speaking to media persons, Kormiyaki talked about the treatment meted out to him by his peers after he was put in a different category of students, he said: “I am special. Teachers give us simplified notes. Many of my friends request me for the notes as they are over-simplified.”
