Dr. Ajeenkya Patil, Chairman, D.Y. Patil Group has filed his nomination papers to contest from the Karad South Assembly seat in the Satara district of Maharashtra state on a Shiv Sena ticket. With Dr Patil filing nomination against the outgoing Chief Minister Pritviraj Chavan, the contest for the seat has become all the more interesting.
Shiv Sena fielded Dr Patil in the back drop of Nationalist Congress Party trying to woo rebel Congressman Vilaskaka Undalkar-Patil who has represented the constituency for the last 35 years to contest on a NCP ticket while Undalkar is still pondering over his options.
BJP went out of the way to make it clear that its leaders would not target the Sena during campaigning. While the Shiv Sena and BJP have been making all the right post break-up noises, the situation in the rival Congress-NCP camp is nothing short of acrimonious. A party spokesperson openly announced that the NCP would ensure that the chief minister is defeated on his home turf blaming him solely responsible for the Congress-NCP break up in the state.
Meanwhile, Chavan who admitted he was aware that the NCP was trying to woo Undalkar-Patil, sought to play down the issue and presented a brave front. “The more the merrier. I will surely win,” he said.
