Sena doesn’t have any qualms about BJP playing the role of big brother in the state.
The Shiv Sena has finally softened its stand against BJP and is willing to support a leader nominated by the latter for the chief ministerial post. Sena had earlier criticised the BJP for breaking the 25 year old alliance ahead of the assembly polls. The party was also reluctant to offer more seats to the BJP for contesting the election which resulted into the split. After the assembly poll results, NCP had come forward to support the BJP which gave the party more bargaining power.
Sena has changed its stance to counter NCP which is keen to have an alliance with BJP. The party which is known for attacking rivals through its mouthpiece Saamna has finally taken a U turn and allow BJP to play the role of big brother in the state. Changing political situation in the state has forced the party to rethink its strategy. No hue and cry was raised by the party after one of its leader Ramesh Jadhav was stabbed to death by five persons in Malwani, Malad. Sena is willing to support either Nitin Gadkari or Devendra Fadnavis for the Chief Ministerial post as BJP will take a final call on this issue.
“Gadkari is well versed with the state and hence has a development vision for Maharashtra. On the other hand, Fadnavis does not have the experience of being involved in governance” said sources from Shiv Sena.
At the same time, PM Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah were heaped praise on by the Shiv Sena. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah will take the final call. It is because of them that the BJP did well in the Maharashtra elections,” it said.
Sena is ready to follow the 2:1 seat sharing formula. According to BJP sources, the party is not willing to give the Sena more than 14 of the total 42 ministerial berths.
It is being said that the Shiv Sena are eyeing the PWD and Revenue ministries amongst others.
Earlier Shiv Sena had said that it won’t allow the bifurcation of Maharashtra but now it has softened its stand on this issue. The change in position by Sena is the result of and response to Senior BJP leader Vinod Tawde’s statement that the BJP did want an association with the Sena, but minus any stipulation
The BJP has won 122 seats in the Assembly elections while the Shiv Sena bagged 63 seats.
