A day after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA and former law minister of Delhi Somnath Bharti refuted charges of harassment by his wife Lipika, the complainant on Monday demanded to end her marriage while reiterating that her husband tortured her mentally and physically. Lipika added that Bharti even called her a ‘BJP agent’.
Addressing a press conference in the national capital along with the DCW Chairperson Barkha Singh, Lipika said, “He (Somnath Bharti) asked me, are you working for the BJP? Is police instigating you?”
Recalling about the tortures, Lipika said, “Somnath Bharti had unleashed dogs on me when I was pregnant.”
“He is threatening me till now and I am very much scared. I am a very simple woman. I don’t know anyone, anywhere. You (reporters) tell me what should I do?” she added.
While alleging domestic violence, Lipika said, “Somnath used to thrash me in front of my mother-in-law.”
Meanwhile, an argument broke down between Barkha Singh and a woman claiming to be the Lawyer assisting Somnath Bharti’s mother. The lady wanted to intervene in the press conference but was not allowed entry by Barkha Singh.
Meanwhile, Somnath Bharti’s mother, who was denied entry at the venue of the press conference, broke down while speaking to reporters and said, “I am ready to stay anywhere but I wish my Son and Daughter-in-law should end this ‘war’ and start staying together again.”
“I am ready to make sacrifices for my son. I can stay on my own too,” she added.
