Assuring strict action against the accused of Meerut gang-rape, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Tuesday promised a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the case, reports said.

The alleged abduction, gang-rape and forced religious conversion of a 20-year-old teacher in the Kharkhauda area of Meerut district in Uttar Pradesh took a political turn today with state BJP chief Laxmikant Bajpai and MLA Sangeet Som, one of the main accused in the Muzaffarnagar riots case, saying that they would meet the victim and her family.

Criticizing the Akhilesh Yadav’s government, Laxmikant Bajpai said, “There is no law and order in UP and there is definitely a communal angle in this incident but the government is not taking it seriously. They are themselves not able to run the state but still blaming BJP for violence,” ANI reported.

Meanwhile, senior advocate and women’s rights activist Abha Singh demanded strict punishment not only for the culprits but also for the local police and leaders.

The victim had claimed that she was gang- raped and forced to adopt the religion of a particular community and to change her name.

The victim reportedly managed to escape from the kidnappers on August 2. Afterwards, she contacted her family who rescued her. A complaint was also filed with the police.

So far, three persons have been arrested in connection with the alleged abduction, gang-rape and religious conversion case.

“Three persons have been arrested in this connection so far,” Inspector General of Police (law and order) Amrendra Singh Sengar had told.
