Thane school, NGO partner to build toilets in schools

Habitat for Humanity India, an NGO working in field of housing and sanitation, has partnered with a private school here under its campaign “Rupee for Change” to build 40 toilets in several schools across the country.

Managing Director of the NGO, Rajan Samuel said the campaign has been launched with an objective to create awareness on the need of of providing housing and sanitation among school students.

It is also in sync with the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Housing for all by 2022’, he added.

Under the campaign, Thane-based Billabong High International School along with the NGO will raise funds to building 40 toilets in various schools which sans one in different cities, Samuel said.

“Schools are foremost supporter pan India and our aim is to not only create awareness regarding need of sanitation and housing for the needy in the country but to also inculcate virtues volunteerism, social consciousness and the spirit of giving among children at an early age,” he said.

Under the programme, students, their families and friends will contribute Re 1 a day (Rs. 365 a year) to a major part of the fund raised by the NGO to construct these toilets.

Samuel said they are running the ‘Rupee for Change’ campaign across the country and target to reach out to 1 lakh families by 2020.
