Three school staff members including headmaster held for graft

Three staff members of a high school and junior college from Bhiwandi, including its headmaster, who allegedly demanded and accepted a bribe from an applicant were arrested by the Thane unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), ACB sources said.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ACB) Thane Unit Srinivas Ghadge told that offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act have been registered at the local police station.

He said that the complainant had applied for the post of an assistant teacher.

However, to appoint him, the accused people demanded Rs. 30,000, the ACB official said.

After due deliberations, it was decided that a sum of Rs. 25,000 would be paid to the school staff including the head master.

The aggrieved complainant complained to the Thane unit of the ACB which nabbed the headmaster as well as another person for accepting the bribe money today, the ACB said.

The ACB officer said that Headmaster Momin Juber Usman and head clerk Momin Anjum Ahmed Yakub Khaver made the demand for the bribe, while Usman and junior clerk Shaikh Nadeem Ahemed Mustaq Ahmed accepted the bribe of Rs. 10,000.

Further investigations into the case are being carried out by officials of the Thane unit of the ACB he said.

Those arrested are from the Samadia High School and Junior College at Bhiwandi.

He said that offences under Section 7, Section 13 (1)(d) and Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988, were registered against the duo at the local police station.
